ACGME-I Accredits New Sponsoring Institutions in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates

ACGME International is proud to announce the Institutional Accreditation of two new Sponsoring Institutions:

  • Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (SKMCH&RC), Lahore, Pakistan
  • American Hospital, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE)

SKMCH&RC becomes the second ACGME-I-accredited Sponsoring Institution in Pakistan, joining The Aga Khan University in Karachi. The American Hospital is the eighth accredited Sponsoring Institution in the UAE.

In addition, 10 graduate medical education (GME) programs across seven countries achieved Initial Foundational and Advanced Specialty Accreditation. Following achievement of Institutional Accreditation in 2024, two fellowship programs at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital became the first accredited GME programs for the specialty institution in Doha, Qatar. These programs are:

  • Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa (Nairobi, Kenya): surgery
  • Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital (Doha, Qatar): orthopaedic sports medicine (fellowship) and sports medicine (fellowship)
  • Hamad Medical Corporation (Doha, Qatar): thoracic surgery
  • Kameda Medical Center (Kamogawa, Japan): critical care medicine (fellowship)
  • Lebanese American University (Beirut, Lebanon): family medicine
  • Sidra Medicine (Doha, Qatar): pediatric orthopaedics (fellowship)
  • VinUniversity (Hanoi, Vietnam): orthopaedic surgery

Among the newly accredited programs are two fellowship programs from St. Jude Global: the hospice and palliative care program based at Unidad Nacional de Oncología Pediátrica in Guatemala City and the pediatric hematology and oncology program based at Shanghai Children’s Medical Center in Shanghai.

These accreditation decisions were announced on 21 February at the 2026 ACGME Annual Educational Conference by ACGME-I staff members and the Chairs of the two Review Committees-International. The committees are responsible for reviewing Sponsoring Institutions and programs for compliance with ACGME-I Requirements.

As of 21 February 2026, ACGME-I accredits 204 GME programs in 15 countries.
